Situation / Topic Action / Instructions
How people will be warned if there is a fire Smoke detector alarm or verbally. Ensure your smoke alarm in the flat works properly and that the battery is regularly changed.
If you find a fire in your flat • Verbally raise the alarm by shouting “FIRE”.• Call the Fire Brigade by dialling 999.• Warn all persons in your flat and leave together.• Where possible, turn off your cooker or oven if it is on.• Close all doors on the way out, particularly the front door.• Leave the immediate area and do not return until permission is given by the Fire Brigade.
Hearing the fire alarm EVACUATE immediately.
Evacuation procedure • Leave your flat if circumstances require it.• Evacuate by the nearest available escape route or as directed by the Fire Brigade.• Instruct any visitors to follow you.• Always close doors behind you.• Do not put yourself at risk or cause delay.• Move away from the building or to a specific location as directed by the Fire Brigade.
Calling the emergency services The person discovering the fire should call the Fire Brigade by dialling 999. Do not end the call until the Fire Service Operator has repeated the address and confirmed it is correct.
Information the Fire Service will ask for • What is on fire?• What is the address?• What is the nearest main road?• What town are you in?
In the event of a fire – do NOT • Use the lift.• Shout or run as this causes panic.• Spend time gathering belongings.• Re-enter the building until official clearance has been given.
Fire doors Do not wedge or prop open front doors or lobby doors (where provided). Failure to comply could make the stairwell inaccessible to residents and the Fire Brigade during a fire.
Reporting incidents FiveM, should be informed of any accidents, incidents, or near misses in the building. Notify us using the phone number above, if you witness or are involved in any such incident so it can be logged and investigated.
If you smell gas / suspect a gas escape • Open doors and windows.• Turn off gas appliances (fires, hobs, ovens, etc.).• Shut off the gas supply at the control valve on the gas meter.• Do not operate lights, doorbells, mobile phones, or electrical switches.• Do not smoke or use naked flames.• Leave the building immediately.• Once outside, call National Grid Gas Emergency Number: 0800 111 999 and follow their instructions.• Only use a mobile phone when outside the building.
Smoke & carbon monoxide alarms Test smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms regularly and replace batteries when necessary. If you cannot test or replace batteries, or if an alarm requires replacement, notify your property manager.
